Karl-Anthony Towns, Dominican Republic land in Manila
The Dominican Republic basketball team arrived in the country on Monday night ahead of its campaign in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Led by Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl Anthony Towns, the Dominicans landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 before they plunge into action on Friday against Gilas Pilipinas at the Philippine Arena.
Aside from Towns, also tipped to power the Dominican Republic are Victor Liz, Lester Quiñones, and Eloy Vargas as they look to improve their 16th place finish from the previous edition of the World Cup.
In 2019, the Dominicans racked up two wins against Jordan and Germany but lost to France. Still, they entered the second round where they lost both games to Australia and Lithuania to bow out of contention.
Dominican Republic and Gilas Pilipinas are bunched in Group A alongside Italy and Angola.
After facing the hosts, Dominican Republic will take on Italy on August 27 and Angola on the 29th.
