Gilas Boys go 2-0 in FIBA U16 SEABA qualifiers with rout of Thailand


Gilas Pilipinas Boys cruised to another blowout victory, this time against Thailand as they carved out an 85-49 victory to remain undefeated in the FIBA U16 Asian Championship SEABA Qualifiers campaign on Tuesday night in Surabaya, Indonesia.

The young nationals are now 2-0 in the tournament following a 94-52 opening game day win against Malaysia on Monday.

Kieffer Alas once again shone for the Philippines as the 16-year-old cager dropped a team-high of 18 points alongside eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals while Kurt Nathan Velasquez chipped in 12 markers off the bench.

Joaquin Gabriel Ludovice added 10 markers as Elijah Mark Williams chimed in with nine.

Gilas will next test its mettle against host Indonesia on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in its bid to punch one of the two tickets to the Asian Championship set in September in Qatar.

Michael Ananda Barwisch paced the Thais with 17 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
