Jon Jones to defend UFC heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic in November
Two-division UFC world champion Jon Jones will make the first defense of his UFC heavyweight world title against former titleholder Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 295 on November 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Jones, 27-1 as a professional mixed martial artist, won the heavyweight gold earlier this year when he came back from a three-year hiatus to submit Ciryl Gane in round one.
"For the heavyweight championship of the world, Jon Jones, the greatest mixed martial artist of all time, will defend his title against the heavyweight of all time former champ Stipe Miocic, UFC President Dana White announced.
Miocic, meanwhile, is touted by many as the greatest heavyweight in UFC history. Having beaten some of the biggest names such as Francis Ngannou, Daniel Cormier, Alistair Overeem, and more, Miocic is looking to become a world champ again at 40 years old.
"This is the fight that Jones wanted, it is the fight that Stipe wanted. It is a legacy fight for both of these guys. It is official. It is done," White stated.
