Gilas pool member AJ Edu joins Toyama in Japan B.League; Juan GDL brings act to KBL

Gilas Pilipinas prospect AJ Edu will make a leap to the professional scene as he joined the Toyama Grouses in the Japan Basketball League, the team announced on Tuesday.

The development came just weeks after the Cypriot-born Filipino center graduated college from the University of Toledo in the U.S.

"Really excited to begin my professional basketball journey at Toyama Grouses," the 23-year-old Edu said.

"Looking forward to meeting all the staff, players, and fans and giving my best on the court for you guys!"

Edu is currently part of the Philippine national team pool for the 2023 FIBA World Cup where he joins other young guns in Kai Sotto, Rhenz Abando, Carl Tamayo, and Dwight Ramos, who played for the Grouses back in 2021. They will be led by naturalized stars Jordan Clarkson, Justin Brownlee, and Ange Kouame.

Meanwhile, another Filipino baller Juan Gomez De Liaño is bringing his act to Korea as he signed with the Seoul SK Knights in KBL.

This is the latest overseas stint for the former University of the Philippines standout as he previously suited up for Earth Friends Tokyo Z in Japan before he joined BC Wolves  in Lithuania.

The Seoul SK Knights are coming off a runner-up finish in the previous season where they bowed to Rhenz Abando's Anyang KGC team in the finals.
