Nikola Jokic named 2023 NBA Finals MVP
Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic was given the 2023 Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player award after his team clinched the NBA championship on Monday (Tuesday in Manila) at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.
Jokic averaged 30.8 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 8.0 assists over the first four games of the finals.
He had another big performance with 28 points, 16 rebounds, and four assists in Game 5 as the Nuggets closed out the Miami Heat, 94-89, win the NBA title, the first in the Nuggets’ franchise history.
“We are not winning for ourselves, we are winning for the guy next to us. And that’s why this is even more. I was winning for Jamal (Murray), Jamal was winning for (Aaron Gordon), that how it goes,” Jokic said on the floor after Game 5.
“This is a great group of people, a great group of teammates. Everything this year was amazing,” he added.
The Serbian superstar, who had already won two NBA regular season MVP awards in the past, will add the Finals MVP and the NBA title to an already decorated career.
