Carl Tamayo relishes first championship as a pro in B.League
Carl Tamayo relished his newest and first ring in his professional career as his Japan team Ryukyu Golden Kings won the B.League 2022-23 championship.
Ryukyu defeated the Chiba Jets, 88-73, in Game 2 of the best-of-three finals on Sunday.
"[This is my] first ring, as a rookie, too, so I'm very happy with the experience," the former University of the Philippines standout said in an interview posted by the league.
Tamayo also said the team deserved the championship.
"I'm very happy for my teammates, the team, the organization. We really worked hard for this. I think the team deserves it. I'm very happy [for] each one, part of the team," said the Filipino import.
With the championship on hand, Tamayo said he wants to be part of the team's journey for next season.
"What I'm looking forward to next season, hopefully to get the championship again and be able to help the team."
The former UP standout joined Ryukyu early this year after his stint with the Fighting Maroons in UAAP Seasons 84 and 85. He was part of the squad which ended the almost four-decade title drought in May 2022.
