Jun Roque shines anew as Perpetual downs Arellano for 6th win in FilOil tilt

Incoming sophomore Jun Roque continued his fine showing for University of Perpetual Help System DALTA as they trounced NCAA foe Arellano University, 94-81, in the 2023 FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup on Thursday.

Roque dropped a team-high 20 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, one assist, and one steal while he got ample help from John Abis and JP Boral who each poured in 13 markers in the victory. Third-year Abis also made his presence felt on defense with his 17 rebounds alongside one block.

The ALTAs were in control of the game early on before Arellano's Troy Valencia tied things up at 63-all at the 1:35-mark of the third period.

However, Perpetual headed to the fourth still carrying the lead, 69-64.

A Roque jumper then brought the Las Piñas crew to a double-digit cushion, 85-75, before three consecutive freebies from him made it a 90-78 affair with 1:18 left to play. Joey Barcuma put on the finishing touches, notching the last two baskets for Perpetual as they cruised to their third straight win and sixth overall.

Perpetual now stands at 6-1 to lead Group 1 while Arellano remained listless at 0-5.

Lars Sunga led the Chiefs with 25 points off the bench laced with eight rebounds, two assists, one steal, and a block while Valencia finished with 13 markers.
