Kai Sotto signs extension with Hiroshima as he remains in pursuit of NBA dream
Kai Sotto isn't letting go of his NBA dream, but the Filipino basketball wunderkind is staying put in Japan for now, agreeing to sign an agreement extension with the Hiroshima Dragonflies for the 2023-2024 season of the Japan B. League.
The agreement, however, gives the Pinoy import an option to sign with an NBA team this summer.
"So there will be a possibility that his contract with HIROSHIMA may be cancelled, but there will be an official announcement from the team scheduled around September for an update," an official statement from the league read.
Sotto, for his part, said he's grateful for another opportunity that Hiroshima gave him but said that making it to the NBA stage remains his ultimate goal.
"I am so grateful to the club for giving me this opportunity, and I am happy to have the chance to play in Japan next season. The NBA is my biggest dream, so I will continue to work hard in the United States this summer," Sotto said.
"To all the Dragonflies fans, I know there may be some irregularities next season, but I will do my best in the given environment so that I can give you good news. See you soon."
Sotto joined the Dragonflies in February, just after he parted ways with the Adelaide 36ers in the National Basketball League in Australia. He suited up for Adelaide for two seasons.
