Who scored the first basket in the PBA and other league firsts

The Philippine Basketball Association celebrates its anniversary every April 9 as it held its first double header on that day in 1975.

The league posted on Sunday some trivia about the league’s firsts in commemoration of its 48th anniversary.

The inaugural double header of Asia’s first play-for-pay league had Mariwasa-Noritake versus Concepcion Carrier, and Toyota versus Universal Textile at the Araneta Coliseum.

Gregorio “Joy” Dionisio made the historic first PBA basket on a short jumper.

Israel “Cisco” Oliver made the first error by stepping on a line while it was Ramon Lucindo who first fouled out.

Coincidentally, as the PBA celebrates its 48th anniversary, crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra takes on TNT Tropang Giga in Game 1 of the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals at the same venue where the league had its first game.
