Gilas 3x3 suffers early exit from FIBA Asia Cup

Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 team failed to advance to the quarterfinal round of the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup after suffering two losses in the group stage on Friday at the Singapore Sports Hub OCBC Square in Singapore.

Gilas bowed to Qatar, 21-18, in Pool D to wrap up its campaign. Almond Vosotros, who plays for TNT in the PBA 3x3 tournaments, led the nationals with nine points while Samboy de Leon chipped in five markers in the loss.

Souley Ndour starred for Qatar with a game-high 13 points as they advanced to the quarterfinals stage against Australia.

Earlier, the Filipino team also fell prey to Iran, 14-11, to kick off their campaign.  The defeat saw Brandon Bates lead the crew with five points while Vosotros chimed in with four.

The Philippines ended its run with a 0-2 win-loss card almost a year after finishing fourth in the previous edition.
