UP secures early commitment of high school star Jared Bahay

University of the Philippines bolstered an already busy off-season recruitment, securing the commitment of blue-chip star Jared Bahay.

"I chose UP because of the good education they will provide and the lovely community they have. I believe they will help hone my skills to my fullest potential," Bahay said in a press release.

Bahay could suit up for the Fighting Maroons come UAAP Season 87 as he will still finish his high school career with Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, whom he steered to CESAFI Season 22 juniors championship as a Grade 11.

The 5-foot-11 baller was hailed Season MVP and the no. 1 talent in NBTC's annual rankings of the best high school players in the Philippines.

Bahay said he gave UP his early commitment as he already wants to be under the wing of head coach Goldwin Monteverde.

"I made an early decision to commit because I already want to know the system that coach Gold [Monteverde] runs so it will be easier for me to transition when I come in. UP presented a clearer plan that will benefit my future and family," he said.

Bahay, who averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.8 rebounds for semifinalist SHS-Ateneo in the 2023 Smart-NBTC National Finals, will join an already stacked UP roster led by JD Cagulangan, Terrence Fortea, and Gerry Abadiano.

Bahay is the latest budding cager to commit to UP after NCAA juniors stars Luis Pablo, Seven Gagate, and Joshua Coronel as well as Sean Alter.
