Barangay Ginebra takes 2-0 series lead after Game 2 rout of San Miguel


Barangay Ginebra San Miguel cruised to a 121-103 victory against the San Miguel Beermen in Game 2 of their best-of-five semifinals series in the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

With the victory, Ginebra improved to 2-0 and is a win away from advancing to the Finals.

Justin Brownlee and Christian Standhardinger led the charge with 32 points apiece to lead Ginebra,

Brownlee also finished with 10 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals while Standhardinger added eight boards and seven dimes. Scottie Thompson also had a triple-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists alongside three steals and two blocks.

Ginebra rode a huge 29-12 run in the second period to turn a close five-point game, 33-28, into a 22-point contest, 62-40. Brownlee scored 12 of his points in the quarter to help his team take a 63-45 lead into halftime.

SMB got to as close as eight points in the third quarter after a 14-3 run but Ginebra restored the lead to 22 by the end of the third and led by as many as 24 points in the fourth before cruising to the win.

The Beermen were led by import Cameron Clark with team-highs of 23 points and 17 rebounds while CJ Perez added 20 markers, seven boards, and four assists.

Ginebra won Game 1, 121-112, after holding off San Miguel in the fourth period.

Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday with Ginebra having a chance to go for a sweep in the semis series.
