Fresh off Gilas stint, Brownlee stays hot as depleted Ginebra defeats Meralco

Justin Brownlee showed no signs of fatigue as he powered Barangay Ginebra to a 112-107 win over Meralco in the 2023 PBA Governors' Cup on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Ginebra resident import, who recently steered the Gilas Pilipinas national team to a 1-1 win-loss finish in the sixth window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, including a 41-point performance against Jordan, finished with 29 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and one block as Ginebra improved to 5-2.

Christian Standhardinger led the team with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists while Jamie Malonzo, who was also part of the Gilas' sixth window roster, chipped in 16 markers, four boards, and two steals.

Ginebra played sans LA Tenorio due to an injury as the veteran guard snapped his streak of 744 straight games played in his career. The reigning champions were also without some other players in Japeth Aguilar, Von Pessumal, Raymond Aguilar, Sidney Onwubere, and Aljon Mariano.

KJ Mcdaniels paced the Bolts with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists as Allein Maliksi came off the bench for 23 markers and four boards as Meralco dropped to 5-4.
