Justin Brownlee takes oath of allegiance to the Philippines
Newly naturalized basketball player Justin Donta Brownlee on Monday took his oath of allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines.
This came days after President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos signed Republic Act 11937 which grants Philippine citizenship to the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel import.
The oath-taking was officiated by Senate justice and human rights committee chairman Francis Tolentino.
Senator Bong Go along with Senator JV Ejercito handed over to Brownlee a copy of Republic Act No. 11937.
Brownlee is being considered for the lineup of Gilas Pilipinas, the country's national team for men's basketball, as they prepare to face Lebanon and Jordan in the sixth and final window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in February.
The Philippines, together with Japan and Indonesia, will host the FIBA World Cup in August.
In the recently-concluded 2022 PBA Commissioner's Cup, Brownlee was named as the Best Import of the Conference—his third in his PBA career.
On Sunday, Brownlee and the rest of the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings were named as the conference's champions after defeating the Bay Area Dragons, 114-99.
