NU overcomes Adamson to open title defense as UAAP juniors basketball returns


Nazareth School of National University overcame Adamson University, 79-76, to open its title defense bid as UAAP juniors basketball made its return on Sunday in Season 85 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

The Bullpups relied on a strong fourth quarter as they outscored the Baby Falcons, 30-15, after trailing 61-49 at the end of the third quarter.

Reinhard Jumamoy led the Bullpups with 19 points, while RJ Colonia (14), Aga Clarito (12), Macmac Alfanta (11), and Francis Herrera scored (10) in double digits.

Justine Garcia tallied 17 points for the Baby Falcons.

Prior to this, Far Eastern University-Diliman manhandled Ateneo de Manila High School, 85-50.

Earlier, University of the Philippines Integrated School defeated University of the East, 101-94, in the season's opening game, while University of Santo Tomas squeaked past De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, 56-46.

Matches will return on Wednesday as Ateneo will face UPIS in the high school edition of the Battle of Katipunan at 4 p.m.
