Law granting Philippine citizenship to Justin Brownlee signed by Marcos - Tolentino
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has signed a law granting Philippine citizenship to American basketball player Justin Brownlee, Senator Francis Tolentino said Thursday.
"Yes. I am so glad that President BBM signed Republic Act 11937," Tolentino, one of the principal authors of the law, told GMA News Online when asked to confirm the development.
A copy of the new law was shared by Tolentino with the media.
This came a month after the Senate approved House Bill 6624 on third and final reading without making any amendments to the version passed by the lower chamber.
Lawmakers expedited the passage of the measure as Brownlee is being considered for the lineup of Gilas Pilipinas, the country's national team for men's basketball, which is set to face Lebanon and Jordan in the sixth and final window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in February.
The Philippines, together with Japan and Indonesia, will host the FIBA World Cup in August. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
