Ginebra finishes off rival Magnolia to advance to PBA Commissioner's Cup finals
Barangay Ginebra made sure there wouldn't be a do-or-die Game 5, finishing off longtime rival Magnolia, 99-84, in Game 4 of their best-of-five semifinals series in the 2022 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Save for Christian Standhardinger, who was ejected halfway through the first quarter, all Ginebra starters poured in double-digit scoring, led by Justin Brownlee who tallied 24 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and five blocks.
With 6:17 remaining in the first period, Standhardinger was called for a disqualifying foul after throwing the ball at Magnolia import Nicholas Rakocevic.
LA Tenorio and Scottie Thompson lit up the backcourt with 18 and 14 markers, respectively, while Jamie Malonzo registered 10 points, eight rebounds, and six dimes.
Japeth Aguilar sparked off the bench with a 19-point outing to go along with eight boards, three assists, and two steals as the Gin Kings booked their return trip to the finals.
They now await the winner of the semifinal affair between top-seeded Bay Area and San Miguel, where the Dragons are holding a 2-1 series lead. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
