Ginebra escapes NorthPort, sets up Manila Clasico semis showdown vs Magnolia

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel escaped gutsy NorthPort, 99-93, in Game 2 of their best-of-three quarterfinals series of the 2022 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City. 

The win allowed Ginebra to set up a Manila Clasico semifinals showdown opposite its longtime rival Magnolia, which routed Phoenix Super LPG in their quarterfinals bracket. 

Justin Brownlee dropped 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists while four other Ginebra players scored in double-digits, led by Scottie Thompson's near triple-double of 15 markers, nine boards, and nine dimes. 

Jamie Malonzo scored 14 points against his former team alongside four rebounds and four steals. 

Jeff Chan, also a former Ginebra player, finished with 20 points, five rebounds, and six assists as NorthPort formally ended its run.
