San Miguel exacts revenge on Converge, nears semis berth
San Miguel avenged its elimination round loss to Converge as it pulled off a 114-96 win in Game 1 of their best-of-three quarterfinal series in the 2022 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena.
San Miguel will now look to sweep Converge on Saturday for a shot at the semifinals.
The Beermen led by as many as 31 late in the third period, 87-56, after a Simon Enciso jumper before the FiberXers pulled to within 11, 98-87, at the 6:03 mark of the payoff period when Aljun Melecio hit a triple.
But San Miguel did enough in the final stretch to move to within a win from a semis return.
CJ Perez starred for San Miguel with 25 points, four rebounds, and three assists while import Devon Scott poured in 23 markers, 12 boards, five dimes, and three steals. June Mar Fajardo was also pivotal with his 19 points, 16 rebounds, and a block.
The win served as some measure of payback for San Miguel as Converge dealt them a 106-102 loss last October 21.
