La Salle ends NU's historic 108-game win streak in UAAP women's basketball


The longest winning streak in Philippine collegiate sports has come to an end.

De La Salle University on Wednesday outlasted National University in overtime, 61-57, in UAAP Season 85 women's basketball at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion to end the Lady Bulldogs' 108-game winning streak in the UAAP.

After being tied at 49 at the end of regulation, the Lady Bulldogs were limited to just eight points in extra period while the Lady Archers scored 12 to deal NU its first loss since 2013.

Four players scored in double digits for the Taft-based squad, with Fina Tchuido posting 14 points, 19 rebounds, and two steals to take the win. Charmaine Torres tallied 13 markers while Lee Sario and Bettina Binaohan had 10 points each.

Mikka Cacho and Angel Surada had 12 and 11 points in the NU loss.

Along with the 108-game winning streak, the Lady Bulldogs built a dynasty with six championships. The last time NU lost was also to a La Salle team, 69-61, in the 2013 UAAP finals.

With the NU loss, the women's basketball tournament will have a Final Four format for the playoffs.
