Pilipinas Aguilas claim bronze; Filipino-coached Malaysian team reigns supreme in Filbasket International Championship


Filipino team Pilipinas Aguilas claimed the bronze medal in the Filbasket International Championship after defeating Malacca Basketball Club, 81-72, in the tournament held in Malaysia's MABA Stadium on Sunday.

Mac Baracael towed the Aguilas past Malacca with 24 points, while former NCAA MVP Prince Eze had 12 points in the third place match.

 

Meanwhile, Filipino-coached Malaysian team Harimau Malaysia defeated Kuala Lumpur Aseel to take the crown.

Harimau Malaysia, coached by Filipino Jeff Viernes, routed Kuala Lumpur Aseel 87-68 in the finals. Ong Wei Yong led Harimau Malaysia with 16 points, while Ting Chun Hong, who was named as tournament MVP, had 15 points on three-of-four triples.

 

The Filbasket International Championship was held from October 23 to 30 in Malaysia where 10 teams from Southeast Asia competed for the title. Aside from the Aguilas, Philippine teams BGC Builders and Makabayan Warriors also played in the tourney.
