Gilas Girls finish third in FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship Division B
The Gilas Pilipinas U18 women's team vented its ire against Samoa, 84-68, to finish in third place in Division B of the 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship on Sunday in India.
After trailing 31-41 at the end of the first half, Gilas Girls relied on a strong third period and made a 28-point rampage against Samoa's 8 points to have a 59-49 advantage heading into the final frame. Gilas Girls eventually took control of the game in the fourth period to end their campaign on a winning note.
Sumayah Sugapong tallied 27 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Louna Ozar and Kristan Geyl Yumul chipped in 15 and 14 points each.
The Filipinas spoiled Malia Jae Ruud's 30-point explosion on top of her 13 boards in the game.
Malaysia and Mongolia are playing for the top award in the finals. The winner of the finals will move to Division A.
