Gilas Girls miss chance for Division A, fall short against Malaysia in OT

It was a frustrating loss for Gilas Pilipinas U18 women's team as the girls fell short against Malaysia in overtime, 66-65, on Saturday in the FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship in India.
The Gilas Girls were up 55-54 with 26 seconds left in the extra period before a foul by Sydney Jane Heyn on Sammi Tan brought the latter to the line and split her free throws. Kate Bobadilla tried to salvage the game but did not succeed as the clock winded down until the final buzzer.
The Filipinas were leading 60-59 with 1:22 left in the fourth period but a triple by Hui Lin Elaine Chong gave the Malaysians advantage. Bobadilla delivered the game-tying shot which brought the game to overtime.
Bobadilla had 19 points and 9 rebounds for the national team, while Liane Ashley Loon had 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Jia Huey Yun tallied 14 for the Malaysians, while Xiao Qi Teh had 13 points.
The Gilas Girls will face Samoa in the 3rd place game on Sunday, while Malaysia will battle Mongolia in the finals. The champion of the tournament will move up to Division A.
