UAAP Season 85 to open on October 1

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines announced on Tuesday that it will open its newest season on October 1.

The league, which is now in its 85th season, will be hosted by Adamson University with the theme "Rise as One."

"After the last UAAP Season made us Fully Alive and created Champions for Life, UAAP Season 85 is hoping to call the entire community to Rise As One," UAAP Season 85 president Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM of Adamson University said in a statement.

With the pandemic affecting the holding of sporting events over the past two years, Suan said the UAAP is looking to go back to some of its traditions, and will also look to innovate new practices which can be passed on to the next hosts.

"As we get back to normalcy, we will be going back to the 'original' days of the UAAP pre-pandemic which is holding our televised games on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays," Suan said. "This season, we are also not just looking to have accomplished a 'good hosting year' for Adamson University but begin traditions that will be passed on from host to host for seasons to come."

The events for UAAP Season 85 will be announced later this month.

University of the Philippines won the title in men's basketball last season, while National University took the crown in women's volleyball.
