Matthew Wright signs with Japan B.League's Kyoto Hannaryz

Former Phoenix Fuelmasters star Matthew Wright is taking his talents to Japan.

Japan B.League team Kyoto Hannaryz announced on Friday that they have signed Matthew Wright as a special Asian player for the upcoming season.

In a statement, Wright said he is excited to start another chapter of his career.

"I am excited to embark on this new journey and looking forward to reuniting with coach Roy Rana," Wright said. Rana is a coach from Canada where Wright was also from.

"I'm eager to help take this team to the next level and build a winning culture with the organization. Thank you to all the supporters and I look forward [to] seeing you at the games!"

Last season, Kyoto finished with 14 wins and 43 losses.

Wright recently also said goodbye to the Fuelmasters for 'unforgettable six years' of his life. The team, meanwhile, said they are saddened by his departure and will also abide by the PBA's rules regarding players going abroad.

Wright will join the likes of brothers Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena, Dwight Ramos, Ray Parks, and Justine Baltazar, in Division 1 of the league.

The B.League is set to open on September 29.
