Gilas Youth falls to Iran to finish sixth in FIBA U18 Asian Championship


The Gilas Pilipinas Under-18 team concluded its campaign in the FIBA U18 Asian Championship at sixth place after falling to the host country, 89-72, on Sunday in Iran.

Iran started to pull away in the second quarter after outscoring Gilas Youth, 25-13, to end the first half at 43-30 in their advantage.

Iran widened their margin to 27, 66-39, in the third period, and eventually took control of the game despite the Philippines outscoring them, 26-23, in the final frame.

Mason Amos again stood out for Gilas in the game with 22 points and 5 rebounds, while Earl Abadam had 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Two players registered double-doubles for Iran with Mohammad Amini posting 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Mohammadamin Khosravi had 12 boards and 10 points. Matyar Ahmadpour tallied 19 markers, while Sarem Jafari and Parsa Ezati Manesh had 17 and 12 points, respectively.

In total, the Philippines had four wins and two losses in the tourney.
