Ateneo wallops Indonesian team UPH by 86 points in WUBS opener
Despite missing some key pieces, the Ateneo de Manila University still asserted its dominance against Indonesia's Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) with a 125-39 lopsided victory in the World University Basketball Series (WUBS) opener on Tuesday in Japan.
There was hardly any momentum gained on the side of UPH as the Blue Eagles cruised to a huge 56-13 halftime lead. They never looked back since then.
The wards of head coach Tab Baldwin then continued to outscore UPH in the third and fourth periods, collecting 34 and 35 points in each quarter while limiting their opponents to just a combined 26 points in both.
Ateneo played sans Ange Kouame and Dave Ildefonso who are still recovering from their respective injuries.
With the win, the UAAP Season 84 runner-up gained the upper-hand of the four-team field with a 1-0 card while UPH dropped to 0-1.
Ateneo will next face Chinese Taipei's National Chengchi University on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
