Vincent Cunanan fuels late Lyceum charge vs UST as Pirates go 3-0 in Filoil preseason tilt
Vincent Cunanan provided the spark off the bench to lead Lyceum of the Philippines University to an 83-73 romp of University of Santo Tomas in the FilOil EcoOil 15th Preseason Cup on Wednesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
The 5-foot-10 Cunanan finished with a team-high 17 points, including seven in the fourth period, to go along with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals as Lyceum grabbed solo lead in Group B with a clean 3-0 card.
Trailing by a hair at the end of the third frame, 60-61, Lyceum stepped on the gas in the fourth as Cunanan fired a triple to give the Pirates a much-needed 75-69 cushion with 3:51 left in the game.
John Barba and John Bravo then put on the finishing kicks, fueling an 8-4 closing run as they cruised to their third win in as many games.
Lyceum also had to overcome a 13-point deficit early in the second period, 12-25.
Barba collected 16 points while Bravo chimed in with 11 markers, eight rebounds, and three assists.
Ian Herrera led UST with 12 points as the Growling Tigers dropped to an even 1-1 slate.
