Four former NCAA standouts on track to win top PBA rookie plum


Four products of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) are currently leading the freshmen class of the 47th Season of the PBA and could be on track to cop the top rookie plum.

Ato Ular, a former big man for Colegio de San Juan de Letran, has come out of his shell, averaging 14.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.2 blocks to help Blackwater enter the playoff round.

Ular, who was drafted 13th overall by the Bossing, has 27.2 average statistical points to lead all the rookies.

Coming in second is Justin Araña of Converge who has piled up 22.1 SPs built on his averages of 8.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks for Converge, who also made its way to the quarterfinals.

Araña, a graduate of Arellano University, is followed by his Converge teammate Jeo Ambohot who has so far collected 19.10 SPs. The Letran standout averaged 6.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.8 blocks, and 0.3 steals in the elimination round.

Not far behind Ambohot is JM Calma, the shooting slotman out of San Sebastian College-Recoletos. The NorthPort bruiser is in fourth place with 19.09 SPs anchored on 9.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.4 blocks.

Tyler Tio of Ateneo de Manila University, who now man the backcourt for Phoenix, is at place with 18.2 SPs.
