Barangay Ginebra fends off NorthPort, snaps two-game skid
Barangay Ginebra averted a collapse and spoiled NorthPort's comeback attempt, 100-93, to snap its skid in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Ginebra, who lost its last two games against Meralco and TNT, now improved to 7-3 while NorthPort dropped to 3-7 ahead of its last elimination round game against NLEX on Friday.
After wrapping the first half up by just five, 47-42, the Gin Kings stepped on the gas quickly in the third frame, igniting for a 22-13 run capped by a Stanley Pringle triple for a 69-55 spread.
That lead ballooned to a whopping 19 points, 80-61, at the conclusion of the period.
The Batang Pier then saw star guard Robert Bolick explode for four huge three-pointers in the fourth as they closed the gap by five, 94-89, with 2:43 left. But Ginebra held on, closing out the game with a Scottie Thompson bucket.
Ginebra, who is already assured of a quarterfinals spot, will take on Phoenix Super LPG on Thursday to complete its elimination round campaign.
