Rhenz Abando replaces injured Dwight Ramos as Gilas begins FIBA Asia Cup campaign

Rhenz Abando will be returning to his national team duties as he was tabbed to replace Dwight Ramos for the Gilas Pilipinas national team's campaign in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup that starts on Wednesday in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas said its request to bring in the high-flying forward out of Letran in lieu of injured Ramos was approved during the FIBA Asia Cup technical meeting on Monday night.

With Ramos out due to shin splints, the 24-year-old Abando completed the 12-man roster that includes Thirdy and Kiefer Ravena, Ray Parks, Poy Erram, SJ Belangel, and RJ Abarrientos.

Completing the line-up are Carl Tamayo, Wil Navarro, Lebron Lopez, Geo Chiu, and Kevin Quiambao.

The Filipinos will play Lebanon first on July 13 before they take on India and New Zealand on the 15th and 17th, respectively.
