TNT bounces back, snaps Ginebra's streak for 8th win
TNT made sure to make a statement in its bounce back win, routing Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, 106-92, to book its eighth win in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The defending champions recovered from their 115-99 loss to San Miguel last Thursday as they improved to 8-3 while Ginebra saw its four-game winning streak come to an end to drop to 6-2.
The Tropang Giga never gave Ginebra the chance to have an advantage as their only lead was at 3-0 after opening the first quarter with a triple from Arvin Tolentino.
It was pretty much TNT's ball game from that point.
The wards of TNT tactician and Gilas Pilipinas mentor Chot Reyes mounted a lead as big as 24, 96-72, after a Glenn Khobuntin three-pointer midway through the fourth quarter.
Ginebra could not mount a big enough run in the fourth as RR Pogoy caught fire to steer TNT.
Pogoy finished with a game-high 30 points to go along with eight rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block while Mikey Williams had a 19-point outing to complement Pogoy's hot-shooting performance.
Khobuntin chipped in 16 markers off the bench alongside his eight boards while Kelly Williams and Kib Montalbo chimed in with 12 and 10 markers each.
Ginebra got a solid performance from Christian Standhardinger who put up a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
