Dwight Ramos to miss FIBA Asia Cup due to shin splints
Dwight Ramos won't be able to see action in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup next week due to 'medial tibial stress syndrome or shin splints', the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas announced on Sunday morning.
SBP said in a statement that the 6-foot-4 star has been dealing with the said injury over the past few days which made it difficult for Ramos to attend practices.
“We will definitely miss Dwight who’s one of our starters,” said Gilas Pilipinas program director and head coach Chot Reyes.
“But that’s the value of having a pool and the reason why Rhenz is making the trip with the team.”
With Ramos out, SBP said it will look to bring in Rhenz Abando, who was part of the national team that played New Zealand and India in the third window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
"Gilas Pilipinas Men will now attempt to replace Ramos from the lineup with Rhenz Abando. This will be brought up during the technical meeting before the start of the tournament by Gilas team manager Butch Antonio," read the statement.
The Filipinos will play Lebanon first on July 13 while they will take on India and New Zealand on the 15th and 17th, respectively.
