RJ Abarrientos set to go pro in Korea —report
RJ Abarrientos is reportedly set to turn professional as the 22-year-old guard is tipped to strike a deal with the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
According to a report by Korean website Jumpball, a basketball official said Abarrientos plans to sign with Ulsan Hyundai under the Asian Player Quota rule for the 2022-2023 season.
The development came just hours after Abarrientos and Gilas Pilipinas lost to South Korea, 106-102, during the second installment of their friendly games in Korea.
In the loss, the 5-foot-11 Abarrientos chipped in 17 points while Dwight Ramos had a 31-point outing but those were not enough as the nationals absorbed their second loss in a row.
To sign in the KBL, Abarrientos would need to forego his playing years left for the Far Eastern University in the UAAP after spending his rookie year in the recent Season 84.
He would also join Gilas teammate SJ Belangel, who earlier signed with Daegu Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) Pegasus.
