Get to know 2022 NBA Finals MVP Steph Curry from 2018 Jessica Soho interview

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry was named the 2022 NBA Finals MVP after scoring 34 points in his team's 103-90 win over the Boston Celtics in Game 6 that clinched this season's NBA championship.

It was the Warriors' seventh title in franchise history and their fourth since Curry joined the team.

Back in 2018, the basketball star spoke to Jessica Soho about his journey in the sport, his faith, his advocacy for gender equality, and the way he changed the game.

Watch the interview and get to know more about Curry here:

On being born to play basketball:
“I mean I do (think that) now, but as a kid, I was exposed to a lot of different sports and passions. Up until that age, I didn’t know what I wanted to do that full-time. But all those different sports and things that I got into taught me a lot about myself. And when I got to the point when I was 13, I chose basketball and to really invest all my time to, there was no looking back at that point.”

On changing the game:
“I never really sought out to do that, I was just comfortable in my own skin and understanding how I was gonna be great as an NBA player. But I think just knowing that the next generation is looking up at the style of play that I have and try to imitate it, that means a lot.”

On playing against larger players:
“You can’t be afraid, you can’t be intimidated. You might fall down and get hurt a little bit, or get some bumps and bruises. But you gotta have that toughness and that’s what I try to have every night.”

On faith:
“Writing Philippians 4:13, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’, my faith is huge in that respect because I know I’m here for a reason. And I try to hold myself accountable and lean on God to give me that energy, than inspiration, determination to be consistent in everything that I do.”

On supporting gender equality in sports:
“It’s an all-inclusive sport. It is something that is for men, women, boys, and girls. I think it was nice to give a voice to those that don’t have the ability to speak for themselves. I’m the father of two daughters that I wanna be able to support them in whatever their goals and passions are in life. Hopefully, move the needle in terms of the conversation around gender equality.”
