Andre Paras retires from PBA to focus on acting career

Andre Paras has decided to call it a career after just one season in the PBA with the Blackwater franchise.

The second generation cager formally sent a letter to Blackwater team owner Dioceldo Sy, informing the team of his retirement from the league.

"I would like to respectfully inform you of my formal retirement from professional basketball with Blackwater Bossing as your player, effective immediately," the letter read.

"I would like to thank you for all the great opportunities you have given me at Blackwater. I have enjoyed working with the team and management and I am ready to move on to the next phase of my life and continue my acting career."

The 6-foot-4 Paras was drafted 27th overall by the Bossing in 2020 and played two conferences with the squad. He posted averages of 1.60 points and 1.30 rebounds in the 2021 Philippine Cup while notching 2.78 markers and 1.67 boards in the 2021 Governors' Cup.

Sy, for his part, wished Paras good luck in his future endeavors, but stressed it's sad to see the young cager go.

"Sayang sobra! So me, like a father to most of the players, I like to see them have a greener pasture. I know it’s heavy also on Andre’s heart so let destiny decide one’s path or journey," Sy told GMA News Online.

"I wish Andre all the best."

When asked for a comment, Sparkle Artist Center, where Andre is a talent, simply echoed what Andre said in his resignation letter to Blackwater.

"All he has to say is he wants to focus now on his career in show business," Sparkle said in a text message. — LA, GMA News
