Converge to be called 'Fiber Xers' as team makes PBA entry

Call them the 'Fiber Xers'.

Converge, the successor of the Alaska franchise, formally joined the PBA family on Tuesday and will carry a moniker aimed to parade the company's mission as one of the leading internet providers in the country.

"We want to give them (the fans) the best and we've been doing this since day one," said Converge owner Dennis Anthony Uy during a team launch in Mandaluyong.

League commissioner WIllie Marcial also vowed that Converge will help the PBA in its vision to continue to be the top basketball fixture in the Philippines.

"SInisiguro ko na ang Converge ay magiging haligi hindi lang sa PBA. Muli, Converge welcome to the PBA," Marcial said.

Returning Chito Salud, who was tapped to be the Converge team governor, said they are out to show results and continue the legacy that Alaska has built over the years.

"We didn't join the PBA to be an embarrassment. So expect full support from the management and I think I have sent that message quite clearly to the players and coaches. We have to show results," said Salud, a former league commissioner.
