Jaydee Tungcab in for Tzaddy Rangel as Gilas lineup maintains core in battle vs New Zealand
Jaydee Tungcab is set to compete in Sunday's Gilas Pilipinas match against New Zealand in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in the Smart Araneta Coliseum this afternoon.
The former University of the Philippines standout will replace Tzaddy Rangel, who was part of the men's roster versus India last Friday, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas announced on Sunday morning.
The rest of the Gilas team bannered by Dwight Ramos and Thirdy Ravena will return for the Philippines' final game to be played in the February window of the qualifiers.
Making it to the Gilas roster again are Juan Gomez de Liaño, Poy Erram, Robert Bolick, Kib Montalbo, RR Pogoy, Troy Rosario, Kelly Williams, Will Navarro, and naturalized player Ange Kouame.
Gilas head coach Chot Reyes previously said they have to be ready for the physicality of the game against the Tall Blacks.
"From time to time, they change players but the style remains the same. They're very tough, they're very physical, and we have to be ready for that," Reyes said on Friday.
The supposed game against South Korea schedudled for Monday will also not push through, with the Korean team withdrawing from the window due to COVID-19. According to the FIBA website, Korea has been disqualified for this window.
