Barangay Ginebra survives late Blackwater rally; NLEX outlasts Rain or Shine in OT
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the NLEX Road Warriors both picked up wins against their respective opponents in the PBA Governors' Cup in the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo on Friday.
Barangay Ginebra survived Blackwater's late run, 109-100, to hand the Bossing their 27th straight loss.
Ginebra went hot early in the first half, 63-41, and led by as much as 31 points, 81-50, at the 6:23 mark of the third period.
Despite an 89-64 margin at the end of the third quarter, Blackwater made a 13-0 run before the halfway point of the deciding quarter. Blackwater cut their deficit to just seven points with 1:35 left, before Justin Brownlee and Japeth Aguilar sealed the deal.
Brownlee posted 25 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, while Aguilar had 18 points and eight boards.
Meanwhile, Jvee Casio's hot-shooting night was spoiled in the loss. Casio exploded for 27 points on 8/13 shooting from beyond the arc. Blackwater import Shawn Glover had 29 points in the losing effort.
Ginebra, which snapped their four-game skid and improved to 4-4, will play Terrafirma on Sunday while Blackwater (0-8) will face NorthPort on Wednesday.
Earlier, the NLEX Road Warriors outlasted the Rain or Shine Elastopainters in overtime, 109-100.
After a deadlock at 97 at the end of the regulation, NLEX relied on an 8-0 run to widen the margin, 105-97. Rey Nambatac was the only Elastopainter to score in overtime.
KJ McDaniels tallied 35 points and 12 markers in the NLEX win, while Kevin Alas added 15 points on top of 10 rebounds. JR Quinahan and Jericho Cruz added 13 points each.
Rain or Shine import Henry Walker had 28 points and 13 rebounds, while Nambatac registered 27 points.
With the win, NLEX improved to 7-3 while Rain or Shine went down 3-6.
The Road Warriors will be back in action on Friday against Barangay Ginebra on Friday, while Rain or Shine will try to bounce back on Thursday against the San Miguel Beermen.
