Legendary Alaska import Sean Chambers speechless on Aces' PBA exit
Sean Chambers, who has left an indelible mark in the PBA as one of the best imports to ever play in the league, was at loss for words after learning that his former team Alaska will soon make its exit from the league.
Chambers, now 56 and is residing in the United States, penned an emotional Facebook post after hearing the news.
"Thank you to everyone reaching out to me about the news of my beloved Alaska Aces," Chambers said.
"I haven't found the right words to express my love and gratitude for Mr. Uytengsu, my teammates, the Alaska family, fans and the entire PBA Family."
Chambers reinforced the Alaska franchise from 1989 to 2001 where he steered the team to six PBA titles, including both the 1996 editions of the Commissioner's Cup and Governors' Cup that resulted in a rare grand slam.
The 6-foot-2 cager was also among the imports who was honored by the team as Alaska retired his no. 20 uniform.
With Alaska, Chambers was also hailed as Best Import in the 1996 season-ending conference.
"My career/legacy in the Philippines, all the memories with my brothers/teammates and all the wonderful Filipinos that are still a huge part of my life," he said.
"These memories will last a lifetime and beyond. My family and I are forever grateful. Please keep all the Alaska Aces die hard fans in your prayers."
In a message to GMA News Online, Chambers could only muster two words: "sad day."
