Alaska halts 2-game losing skid, extends Blackwater curse

The curse continues for Blackwater.

The Bossing absorbed their record-extending 24th straight loss following a 98-75 defeat against the Alaska Aces in the 2021 PBA Governors' Cup on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Blackwater had control of the game early in the first half and led the Aces, 36-33, at one point in the second frame. However, Alaska, through the duo of Maverick Ahanmisi and Robert Herndon, dealt the Bossing with a 17-7 rampage to end the quarter for a 50-43 cushion.

That's when the meltdown started for Blackwater.

Alaska opened the third quarter with a 19-8 run before big man Rodney Brondial went for a layup that gave the Aces a huge 71-51 lead.

Blackwater was still be able to trim the deficit to 13 to end the third following a triple by Juneric Baloria, 60-73, but that was the closest that Blackwater could get.

Alaska stretched its lead to its biggest, 92-66, following an acrobatic shot by Ahanmisi. Blackwater was only able to score 13 markers in the payoff period as they were held to their lowest output this conference.

Ahanmisi led the Aces with 17 points, eight rebounds, and two assists while Jeron Teng chipped in 14 markers and eight boards as Alaska went back to winning ways after two previous losses. They improved to 3-2 in the team standings.

Meanwhile, Rashawn Mccarthy carried the load for Blackwater with 16 points while Ed Daquioag finished with 12 points and four assists as Blackwater dropped to 0-5.
