PHLPost honors basketball legend Robert Jaworski with commemorative stamp

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) on Saturday honored basketball legend Robert Jaworski with a set of commemorative stamps as part of the Post Office's celebration of the 75th year anniversary of the country's first stamp.

PHLPost said the Jaworski stamp set is the first part of its  “SALAMAT – Pagpupugay sa mga Alamat” series.

"His legendary status and his popularity are the result of his discipline, dedication, and passion on and off the court – and his “Never Say Die” attitude. The Post Office recognizes Jaworski, Philippine Sports Hall of Fame inductee, for his contributions to the field of Philippine basketball," the office said.

Former Pasig Rep. Dodot Jaworski, son of the basketball legend, accepted the honor on behalf of his father in the launch held in the Manila Central Post Office.

Dodot said his father is confronted with physical ailments and asked for prayers for his recovery. Last year, the Jaworski family said the basketball legend was recovering from pneumonia.

Despite this, Robert, in a statement, said it is a great honor to be included in PHLPost's series of stamps.

"It is an ever greater honor to be included in the list of people who have been chosen by your esteemed corporation to be considered legends of our time. Let me express my profound gratitude for this great, great honor," Robert said in a statement read by Dodot.

"Never did I imagine that I would be put on the stamp of our beloved republic," he added. "I do not have enough words to express my gratitude."

Also present in the launching of the commemorative stamps were Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial, and Barangay Ginebra players LA Tenorio, Mark Caguioa, Stanley Pringle, Scottie Thompson, Joe Devance, and Japeth Aguilar.
