Matthew Aquino inks deal with Shinshu Brave Warriors in Japan B. League

Another Filipino cager is set to bring his act to Japan.

Matthew Aquino, the son of PBA legend Marlou Aquino, has been announced as the newest signee of the Shinshu Brave Warriors in the ongoing 2021-2022 Japan B.League.

The 25-year-old second generation baller will now become the ninth Filipino baller to see action in the prestigious league, where he will be joined by brothers Thirdy and Kiefer Ravena, Kobe Paras, Ray Parks, Dwight Ramos, Kemark Carino, and Javi and Juan Gomez de Liaño.

Unlike the other eight cagers, though, the 6-foot-7 Aquino can play as a local and not avail of the Asian Player Quota due to Japanese nationality.

"I have always been prepared for these opportunities, and I will do my best to make God and my family and those who support me proud," said Aquino, who has already joined the team after completing his 14-day mandatory quarantine.

"I look forward to seeing everyone in Japan, especially the Shinshu boosters!"

Aquino's Shinshu team plays in the B.League's first division (B1). They are currently at the no. 17 spot in the team standings with a 2-2 win-loss record.
