Dwight Ramos hits 7 three-pointers as Gilas routs Jordan B in King Abdullah Cup


Gilas Pilipinas made it two wins a row after cruising to a 27-point victory over Jordan B, 90-63, on Wednesday in the King Abdullah Cup in Jordan.

Dwight Ramos led the way for the Filipinos as he sank seven out of his 10 three-point attempts en route to a game-high 21 points for Gilas. He also led all players in two other categories with six assists and five steals.

Gilas as a team shot 16-for-36 (44-percent) from beyond the arc, with Justine Baltazar and Jordan Heading each knocking down three three-pointers themselves.

Baltazar finished with 13 points and Heading added 11 in the win.

Gilas got off to a strong start in this one as Ramos hit four three-pointers as part of a 17-6 start in the first four minutes of the game. He hit another one later in the quarter to up his total to 15 points, as the Philippines took a 25-14 lead after one.

They maintained that lead to take a 46-33 lead into halftime.

The Filipinos all but put the game away in the third quarter with a 19-4 run, featuring all of Heading's three triples. That run gave them a 25-point lead, 74-49, with a minute left in the period. The lead went as high as 31 points, 90-59, in the fourth quarter, on a Mike Nieto basket with 3:10 remaining.

Gilas opened the tournament with a 73-60 loss to Egypt but bounced back with a win over Saudi Arabia, 77-62, in their most recent game. They will next Tunisia next in the pocket tournament.
