Gilas Pilipinas loses to Egypt to open Jordan meet
Gilas Pilipinas failed to open its campaign in the King Abdullah Cup on high note after suffering a 73-60 beating against Egypt Monday night (Manila time) at the Prince Hamzah Sport Hall in Amman, Jordan.
Naturalized big man Angelo Kouame led the offensive charge for the visiting Filipinos with his double-double output of 13 points and 11 rebounds while team captain Isaac Go poured in 13 as well.
The returning Thirdy Ravena had a quiet night with eight points while Dwight Ramos, who was coming off a groin injury, put up nine markers to go with four assists.
Gilas trailed by as many as 14 points but could not complete a late-game rally to fall to the Egyptians.
Amro Mohammad Abd Alhalem led Egypt after scoring 14 points, four rebounds, and five assists while Omar Saeed Arabei churned out 11 markers in just 13 minutes of action.
Gilas will try to bounce back when it faces the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia later today.
