Terrence Romeo's initial MRI result 'encouraging', says SMB team manager
The San Miguel Beermen can heave a sigh of relief after Terrence Romeo looks to have avoided a major injury.
In a message to GMA News Online, team manager Gee Abanilla shared that the 29-year-old guard underwent an MRI on Sunday night and the early results indicate it may be good news.
"Initial MRI results last night were encouraging but we still have to wait for the assessment of (PBA medical consultant Dr. Raul Canlas) tomorrow so that it would be accurate and official," Abanilla said on Monday. "Nevertheless, we are glad with the initial MRI results."
Romeo was assisted off the court in SMB's game against Meralco after hurting his ankle with more than eight minutes left in the payoff period. Initial reports stated that the former FEU standout heard a pop when the incident happened.
Despite his early exit, Romeo led all his teammates in scoring with 18 points as the Beermen opened their 2021 campaign with a 93-87 loss to the Bolts.
Abanilla added that they still have to get official clearance from Dr. Canlas before declaring Romeo a go for their next game.
It's possible, though, that he will be back as early as San Miguel's match against NLEX this Friday.
"I have to wait for Dr. Canlas' assessment but I think so."
Romeo had just returned from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for most of his team's campaign in the 2020 Philippine Cup. He only played a total of three games in that conference.
