Gilas' Dwight Ramos remains day-to-day ahead of FIBA OQT; Carl Tamayo moving closer to recovery

Gilas Pilipinas was dealt a major blow before the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament as injuries continued to pile up.

According to national team assistant coach Jong Uichico, Dwight Ramos remains day-to-day as the Filipino-American guard has yet to fully recover from a groin injury with only days left before the tournament in Belgrade, Serbia.

The 6-foot-4 guard sustained the injury days after the Philippines swept the third window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers in Clark. He was also sidelined during the nationals' tune-up game against China, which ultimately ended in a draw.

With Ramos' availability still questionable, the national team could be facing a tall task as the Ateneo recruit averaged 13.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2 steals in the six qualifying games he played.

Meanwhile, Uichico said Carl Tamayo is making progress in his recovery and could join Gilas in its assignments against host Serbia on June 30 and Dominican Republic on July 1 (July 1 and July 2 in Manila time).

The 20-year-old budding forward posted norms of eight markers, 2.5 boards, and one assist in two games.

The 6-foot-7 slotman did not see action in Gilas' last game against South Korea due to a sprained ankle while also sitting out the friendly game against the Chinese national team.
