Scottie Thompson's controversy should not affect his career, says agent
Danny Espiritu—a seasoned basketball agent who handles the career of Scottie Thompson—said that the recent issues surrounding the prized cager should not be used to harm his career in the PBA.
The Barangay Ginebra guard reportedly got married to Jinky Serrano in a civil wedding in Las Piñas, which came months after he got engaged to longtime girlfriend Pau Fajardo on New Year's Day.
Espiritu confirmed that the 27-year-old guard has indeed tied the knot and admitted that he was also surprised about the sudden turn of events.
"I was their godfather and I didn't know that at first," Espiritu told GMA News Online.
"He's actually happy now that he's already settled. And we'll meet soon so that he can introduce Jinky to me."
The longtime powerbroker said that what happened was Thompson's personal choice and that even he, probably one of the closest people to the high-flying guard, can't contest the decision.
He added that Thompson remains committed to his duties to Ginebra, who's currently preparing for the looming start of Season 46.
"Before the news came out, I already informed Ginebra that there is something coming about Scottie and they told me that as long as it's not affecting his performance, then they will let Scottie play," he said.
Espiritu said Thompson is hard at work, especially now that they're hoping to defend their title after winning the 2020 Philippine Cup where incidentally, he was awarded with the sportsmanship plum.
The agent said Thompson's contract with the Ginebra franchise will expire come August but stressed he's confident they would reach another deal.
