Mandaue bags Visayas Leg title of VisMin Cup


KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue City claimed the Visayas Leg title of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup after defeating MJAS Zenith-Talisay City Aquastars, 89-75, in the do-or-die Game 3 Finals played in the Alcantara Civic Center in Cebu on Sunday.

After being down 34-39 at the end of the first half, Mandaue detonated a 27-point explosion in the third period to take the lead, 61-50.  Mandaue never looked back and even led by as much as 22 points in the fourth quarter, 88-66, with 1:41 left in the game.

KCS-Mandaue drew first blood in the series, 67-66, before Talisay forced a rubber match, 63-56, in Game 2 on Saturday.

Mandaue's Ping Exciminiano was named Finals MVP. He also led Mandaue for the title with 15 points. Michole Sorela and Al Francis Tamsi chipped in 12 points each.

Patrick Cabahug topped the Aquastars in scoring after listing 21, while Jaymar Gimpayan, the league's Most Valuable Player, added 12 points.

With the win, Mandaue will now represent Visayas in the league's grand finals.

According to a Spin.ph report, the announcement on whether the Mindanao Leg of the VisMin Cup will push through will be made on Monday. The Games and Amusements Board suspended the Mindanao Leg of the league following the controversial match between Lapu-Lapu and Siquijor on April 14. The Mindanao Leg was supposed to start on May 20.
