New jerseys, same goal for Barangay Ginebra — shot at PBA title
They may have a new jersey design for the upcoming season of the Philippine Basketball Association, but for Barangay Ginebra, their goal remains the same: get a shot at the league's championship.
"Same mission, for sure," Stanley Pringle said in a virtual press conference on Thursday. "But I think it's really important -- that 'Bagong Tapang' -- going into this conference. Every single conference that you'll start, you gotta have really high motivation just to compete. It's as if you didn't win a championship"
Pringle said this mindset is what helped them win the PBA's 'bubble' conference last year.
"We went into the bubble with the mindset that, you know, we were gonna win it all, regardless if we won the championship the previous conference," he shared.
On Thursday, the team unveiled the 'Bagong Tapang' jersey and cap collection, which also comes alongside a promotion where fans will be given a chance to redeem jerseys and donate to Gawad Kalinga's Barangay Walang Iwanan program.
The 'Bagong Tapang' jersey design will be one of the official uniforms Barangay Ginebra will use for the PBA's 46th season.
For LA Tenorio, one of the new things he's excited for is to play against, and maybe even from the incoming rookie class, some of whom he coached in the collegiate ranks.
"Aside from us wearing the new jersey, I'm looking forward to being challenged again by the new players that will come in the PBA. I'll learn from there," said Tenorio, who is also an assistant coach in the Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
"We're here to guide them also and to be more responsible by wearing, especially our rookies, we will tell them that everytime you wear our jersey, the One Ginebra Nation, it's a bigger responsibility," he added.
